Hollies at Grassington

July 1, 2009 by geoffhudson

Three stills from a video I took at the Hollies show at Grassington on the  30th June 2009.

Top image – From left to right Steve Lauri, Ray Stiles, Bobby Elliott, Peter Howarth, Tony Hicks and Ian Parker.
Middle image – Peter Howarth and Bobby Elliott on drums.
Bottom image – Peter Howarth, Bobby Elliott, Ian Parker and Tony Hicks.

Up to a 1,000 people in a tent watching magnificent entertainment. It was a very hot and sweaty evening,  everybody laughed when Tony Hicks said to Peter Howarth “Why don’t you take your jacket off, if you are hot?” in which Mr. Howarth replied, “I’m British, I will keep it on.”.

This was The Hollies at their best, the lead singing was excellent, the harmonies, tight as a nut, the guitars, keyboards and especially Bobby Elliott’s druming held everything together.

I know some Hollies fans have not taken to Peter Howarth ,  all I can say to that is they should come and see him perform live,  they will certainly change their minds. His  acoustic arrangement and singing of   ‘Can’t Tell The Bottom From The Top’  was breathtaking and gained a standing ovation.

I got to meet Knut Skyberg and even bought a Hollies polo shirt from Rob’s stall :)
